COMPANY FOCUS: PRECISION CARGO SERVICES
|
|
|
With offices in both Pinewood and Shepperton Studios, Precision Cargo Services offers international delivery services door-to-door worldwide – be it by air, ocean or road.
The company specialises in dealing with production companies and can provide production co-ordinators for each individual production to work in the studio or on location.
What is the nature of your business?
Precision Cargo Services Limited was established in 1990 as a freight forwarder and express courier service. Two of the founding directors are still very much involved with the daily activities of the company with a young and enthusiastic staff behind them.
Our staff are regularly trained on various courses to maintain a high level of service to the customer and we are Home Office Section 5 approved for the movement of firearms and ammunition - meeting with all United Kingdom and European Union regulations and requirements.
What has been your biggest job so far?
That is a difficult question to answer as the range of requirements can vary from production to production. We get enquires ranging from expediting urgent tapes and film rushes from locations and studios to ‘on-board hand-carries’ of film to organising charter aircraft for firearms and ammunition to any location in the world.
How has the nature of your business changed over the years?
The nature of our business has not fundamentally changed in the 16 years we have been established. However, technology has evolved considerably with the integration of the internet.
What makes your company different from the competition?
Due to the very nature of the film and TV industries, we provide a 24-hour, 365-day service in order to meet all the requirements to provide a prompt response for all our services.
What have been the most significant industry changes you have witnessed?
The main industry changes we have witnessed recently are the security changes that affect not just the airline passenger but also the security requirements to the freight and courier customers. Stringent security checks are now in place, which will become the norm for shipping goods and material around the world.
What does technology mean to the business?
Technology is a very important part of our business - whether for clearing material through customs or using technology in our delivery vehicles, we are always updating as new tools become available.
On a five-year plan for the company, what would be your most important heading?
We would be looking to maintain client retention and repeat business through competitive pricing and service to the customer.
What single most important piece of advice you would offer to someone starting in your line of business today?
Respect and be honest with your customers and you won’t go far wrong.
